17 weeks

I had another OB appointment today. Micah went with me since it was a short appointment. He was so well behaved. I know this next child is going to give us a run for our money! Anyway, labs were good. The heartrate was 156, which is the same as last time. I've spent a little time this morning on the internet trying to figure out if I'm having a boy or girl (I know, I know...). Based on heartrate, it's a girl. Based on 2 lengthy quizzes I took, it's a girl. Based on the Chinese lunar calendar which takes into account mother's age at conception and month of conception, it's a boy. Guess we'll find out on the 26th. I haven't done the "ring test" or the "Drano test." I think I'll just wait and see.

Busy Boy

Micah has been a busy little boy over the past week, and his mommy has been pretty busy, too!



Saturday, May 30-farmer's market and first "pool" experience. We had some friends over for a cookout and Micah along with their 3-year-old twin girls played in his new kiddie pool. I can't believe I haven't actually had him in a real pool yet!



Monday-had the couch and two chairs in the living room cleaned. Between 4 years of eating on the couch, having a dog, and having a child, spot cleaning just wasn't cutting it anymore. Micah spent the afternoon with his daddy while mommy went to the chiropractor.



Tuesday-to the library to meet Whyatt from the PBS show "Super Why." We've never actually seen the show, but I thought it would be fun. Micah was scared to death and almost cried! We also signed up for the Summer Reading Program. For every 2 hours Micah spends reading or listening to books, he gets a prize. After 12 hours, he'll get the grand prize. As much as he likes books, it shouldn't take long!



Wednesday-first day of Treasure Time at church. This is a 3-hour program for which we signed Micah up each Wednesday in June and July. It's sort of like a Vacation Bible School. I was so worried Micah would cry the entire time. Apparently, he surprised us all and was the only child in his group that didn't cry! So, he gets to have some fun and learn about God while mommy gets to have a little time to herself :)



Thursday-mommy goes back to the chiropractor while Micah spends time with his friends. Then we have a playdate for about 2 hours with his friends.



Friday-back to the library for storytime with the mascot from Red Robin. Micah liked the bird from a distance but didn't want to get too close.



Saturday-baby shower for a friend. Joe had something else to do Saturday morning, so Micah accompanied me to a baby shower, where he was (mostly) a perfect angel.



Sunday-church. The children's center was closed so Micah went to his first grown-up service. He sat still for about 45 minutes. I was surprised it was that long. Eventually, Joe took Micah to the foyer for the remainder of the service. When I went out there after the sermon was over, it was toddler mania out there! After church, we all took a drive to Land Between the Lakes National Park to scope out some camping sites for some time soon. We walked around a historical working farm where Micah saw a bull and a horse and was not afraid of either. He's afraid of giant cartoon characters but not dangerous animals. Go figure!



Monday-back to the library to view a movie, The Tale of Despereaux. Micah watched about 50 minutes then we had to go. We'll have to rent the movie some time to see the rest. Also, Micah listened to 2 hours worth of books for the Summer Reading Program so he got to pick a prize from a prize box and got a coupon for a free cheeseburger from McDonalds.



Other news from the past week and a half-Micah has a new song he likes to sing. The ABC song. He usually leaves out T, U, and V but I'm impresssed! I know he has no clue what it means, it's just a song to him, but, regardless, I'm amazed at his memorization skills.



Micah continues to be very bashful lately. He'll warm up eventually but tries to pull me out the door when we go to public places or friends' houses.



Micah refuses to hold my hand anymore no matter where we are--in parking lots, in the street, in a store. It doesn't matter. If I try to hold his hand in a parking lot, he'll drop all his weight to the ground. So, is it more dangerous to walk beside him while cars are driving by or have him throw himself to the ground in front of a car (which has happened) while I'm holding his hand? Once the baby comes, I can't deal with that kind of drama, so, most of the time, I let him walk on his own while I guide him (which he also hates but not quite as much) by placing a hand on his back or head.



Micah is quite the copycat. He repeats everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, we say. So far, no one has said anything bad in front of him (at least that he heard) but he has repeated some funny things. The other night after dinner, I said something that I can't quite remember to which Joe replied "Yeah, straight to your butt!" Joe was across the room and Micah was playing with his plate. He continued to play with his plate while saying "Straight to your butt," over and over.



I've been feeling some baby movements lately. I'm 16 weeks now and have felt flutters for a couple weeks. Now, they feel more like sweeping bubbles across my belly but I can't quite feel them from the outside. I have another doctor appointment on Thursday. Hopefully, everything will be just fine! We're all doing well and can't wait to meet our newest family member.

Hello World

For the few of you who still read this, we are still alive and well. The past few weeks have been hectic as it was the last month of school and work was crazy. School ended last week, then my parents and brother were in town so blogging has not been on my mind. This will probably be a long post as I try to fill you in on what has been happening around here.



Micah is growing up so fast. He'll be two in July, and I can hardly believe it. Some of the things he's into right now: trying on mommy's shoes, playing outside, chasing bubbles, and sitting on the potty. He's not actually using the potty (though he did pee in it once when I sat him on it before bath time); he really just uses it as a chair. We're not actively potty training. I just wanted him to have access to it and be able to use it when he's ready. I would LOVE for him to be potty trained before this baby comes, but I think it would actually be easier if they were both in diapers.






Micah is officially a climber. He climbs on anything he can. I'm waiting for the day he climbs out of his crib. We ordered the parts to turn his crib into a toddler bed. I definitely want him to be sleeping in a bed before the baby comes so we don't have to buy another crib. I don't think we'll have too difficult of a time with the transition as he likes to lay down just about anywhere at times. Here he is watching cartoons in my room while I was getting ready.


He doesn't watch much TV, but it is a life saver when I need to do something and not have him hanging all over me during whatever it is I'm doing.


Micah is still a picky eater. He used to eat everything but his diet narrows everyday to where he now only eats bread or bread-like foods like waffles, chicken nuggets, and fruit. No veggies unless they're from Cracker Barrel. At least he eats fruit I guess. Sometimes it's only in the guise of the bread-like foods like homemade blueberry pancakes.



Micah is getting where he smiles whenever the camera comes out. If he sees the camera, he'll make his best fake smile and say "Cheeeeeessssse!"

He still loves books as much as ever. We read so much, he can almost "read" some of the books himself. In otherwords, he's memorized what the page says and can say it himself. He's also interested in songs and has memorized a few. Here's a video of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."

At the end, he's attempting to sing "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and jump.

We've pretty much been homebodies the last 6 weeks. We did go to North Carolina the first weekend in May for Joe's high school reunion. I was actually looking foward to his more than my own because I met several of his high school classmates in college and was acutally college roommates with two of them. I acutally don't plan to go to my own reunion for many reasons but anyway...It was a good time and good to visit with family as well. We stayed with Joe's parents. His sister, her husband, and their son are living there right now while waiting for a new job to start so we got to visit with them as well.

My parents and brother came to visit over Memorial Day weekend. We hadn't seen my brother since Christmas and my parents since February. We didn't do much but just enjoy each others' company. One day, we did venture down to Shiloh National Military Park, a Civil War battle site. Micah thoroughly enjoyed himself. Most of the weekend was spent hanging out, playing board games, and playing Wii games. Micah loves his Papaw, Mamaw, and Uncle Adam and continued to look for them out the front door for a few days after they left.

Onto current pregnancy news. I am 15 weeks today and starting to show. I'm sure most people think I'm just chubby at this point. I had another brief doctor appointment 2 weeks ago and everything was good. I was able to hear the baby's heartbeat and had gained one and a half pounds. I'm not eating the best but I'm trying to remember eating for 2 does not mean twice as much food :) I didn't gain too much weight with Micah but was at the top of the recommended weight gain. I'd like to be able to lose this weight after the baby is born, which I still haven't done with my baby weight from Micah. So far, I have not had anymore nausea but I have had sciatic nerve pain since about 8 weeks. This is really early to experience that but I had the same thing with Micah. Up until last Friday, it had been uncomfortable but bearable. Then on Friday, I started having episodes of pain that were so intense I couldn't walk or even move. This happened Saturday, Sunday, and Monday as well. I called my OB on Tuesday since they were closed all weekend for the holiday and they suggested I go to a chiropractor. I've never been to a chiropractor so I was a little skeptical but willing to try anything at this point. I had my first appointment on Wednesday. I've had hardly any pain at all today. So, I'm going to keep going for a while and hope it helps. My next OB appointment is June 11, and we have an ultrasound on June 26 which will hopefully reveal the sex of the baby. I admire people who let that be a surprise, but I have control issues and don't like surprises too much :) Plus, if it's a boy, we won't have to buy too much but if it's a girl, we'll need a lot of stuff. I'll keep you all posted :)

Well, that's that. I'll try to be better about posting regularly now that I'm home for the summer. I'm so glad to not be at the height of pregnancy in the summer this time because it is HOT here.
